Description

Rainbow Sharks, scientifically known as Epalzeorhynchos frenatum, are eye-catching freshwater fish prized for their striking black bodies and vivid red fins. Despite their name, they are not true sharks but rather members of the Cyprinidae family, closely related to minnows and carps. These active and territorial fish are native to Southeast Asia, where they inhabit rivers and streams with strong currents. In home aquariums, Rainbow Sharks require ample swimming space and territories to establish their dominance. They can be aggressive towards similar-looking species, so tankmates should be chosen carefully to avoid conflicts. Rainbow Sharks are omnivorous and will readily accept a varied diet, including sinking pellets, flakes, and live or frozen foods. Maintaining a well-oxygenated environment with a moderate to strong water flow is essential for their health and vitality. Regular water changes and maintenance are crucial to prevent the buildup of toxins and ensure optimal water quality in the aquarium.
